Flying non-stop from North Carolina to Canary Islands
How far is Canary Islands from North Carolina?
Here’s the quick answer if you have a private jet and you
can fly in the fastest possible straight line.
Flight distance: 3,757 miles or 6047 km
Flight time: 8 hours, 1 minute
Compare this to a whole day of commercial travel with
the airports and waiting in line for security, which ends up taking a total of 8 hours, 54 minutes.
Flying private is roughly 1.1x faster, and saves you about 54 minutes in your total travel time.
Because of the curvature of the Earth, the
shortest distance is actually the “great circle” distance, or
“as the crow flies” which is calculated using an iterative
Vincenty formula. For a long distance, this appears as a curve on the map, and this is often the route that commercial airlines will take so it’s a good estimate of the frequent flyer miles you’ll accumulate as well.
This is a fairly long flight, so unless you have a Gulfstream G650 or your own Boeing or Airbus, you might be booking a commercial flight. In that case, your travel time would really need to
include how many minutes to get to your local airport, wait
for security, board and taxi on the runway, land at the other
airport, and get to your destination. The flight itinerary at the top of the page takes into
account all these factors to get a more accurate estimate of
your actual flight time.

Grand Caribbean Marinas LLC
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Nov. 28, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Grand Caribbean Marinas (“GCM”), a Bacalia Group company, has just announced the consolidation of Isleta Marina and Blue Coast Boat Park in Puerto Rico. With this purchase, GCM will control over 3,000 slips between wet slips and dry storage, and has strengthened its position among the top five marina owners and operators, with the most slips in the United States.
The President and Founder of Bacalia Group, Italian businessman Giuseppe Cicatelli, comments that these two operations are very synergistic to the existing group of marinas. “Combining Isleta Marina and Blue Coast represents another step forward for Grand Caribbean Marinas towards being a dominating player in the SouthEast US recreational boating industry. Isleta Marina adds an additional segment of boaters including sailboats, and Blue Coast Marina allows us to expand our capacity at the boat park facilities.”
Isleta Marina has been in business for approximately thirty-eight years and includes several facilities with 240 wet slips, a boatyard offering repair facilities, a slipway and travelift, as well as a sailmaker, a restaurant and a marine store.
Despite the recession fears, the outlook for the nautical industry remains bright, and there is a continued interest in recreational boating.
Marlon Mellado, CEO of Grand Caribbean Marinas, adds that “We continue on our path of expansion in the marina industry. We have incorporated an investment plan to substantially improve the boatyard offerings and the travelift facilities at Isleta Marina, which are unique in terms of availability and location in the Caribbean. ”
Grand Caribbean Marinas reinforces its strong position in becoming a consolidator of marinas and plans to become a multi-state operator in the United States, over the medium-term.

Del agua: Project Rwanda – DelAgua
Project Rwanda – DelAgua
PROJECT
RWANDA
DelAgua began its innovative stoves programme a decade ago in Rwanda.
The operation has been developed and fine-tuned so that it is now the biggest clean cookstove project in the world with 1 million stoves distributed to date and a total of 2.3 million scheduled for completion in Rwanda by 2024. As a result of this success, Government interest in bringing DelAgua’s model to new markets has been extremely high. DelAgua has since formed four new partnerships, signing MoUs with the Governments of Burundi, Liberia, Sierra Leone and The Gambia. Each of these Governments is committed to transforming the lives of their poorest rural communities as well as cutting carbon emissions.
They have chosen to work with DelAgua because of our unique capability to deliver a comprehensive free stove and education programme at scale, training and employing thousands of local staff and fully funded through carbon financing. Pilot distributions in these countries will begin in 2023.
Our Tubeho Neza (“Live Well”) project has been running since 2012, in partnership with the Government of Rwanda, with the goal of providing innovative, high quality, high performance stoves to 2.3 million rural households. The project is one of the largest cookstove programmes of its kind in the world and is addressing critical climate and health challenges at scale and for the long term.
Why cookstoves?
2.8 billion people still cook over polluting fires, a major contributor to carbon emissions, deforestation and climate change. Cooking over open fires or inefficient stoves emits one-quarter of global black carbon emissions—the second largest contributor to climate change after carbon dioxide.
Household air pollution is the leading environmental cause of premature death and disability, ahead of unsafe water and lack of sanitation, causing more deaths than Malaria, HIV and TB combined. Clean cookstoves are vital to tackle both global challenges and also provide a plethora of other benefits that impact the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The UN calculates the cost of inaction at $ 2.4 trillion and describes the provision of clean cooking solutions as nothing less than a human rights issue.
Why Rwanda?
The majority of the population still cook on traditional wood fires, damaging health, the environment and causing significant deforestation. Rwanda is one of the world’s poorest countries but its economy is growing. The government is committed to fairness, raising the prosperity of all levels of society. Enlightened policies around gender equality mean that over half their parliament are women and they are leading the way with a tough climate action plan which places environment and climate change at the heart of the government’s decision making. This is reflected in their long- term commitment to Tubeho Neza and our partnership with the Government of Rwanda is central to the success and scale of the project.
In July 2022 the UN published their Common Country Analysis for Rwanda. The Common Country Analysis is the UN’s independent, collective, integrated, forward-looking, and evidence-based country analysis. Key finding from the report include the following:
For the last decade, Rwanda has shown impressive progress in the area of governance in general and in justice and rule of law in particular.
Rwanda has taken a leadership position with regard to gender equality and empowering women: the UN ranks Rwanda 9th globally and top in Africa. It is among the top 4 countries in the world for political empowerment, thanks to a high share of women (above 50%) among both parliamentarians and ministers
Rwanda is among the top performing countries in sub-Saharan Africa in terms of access to education. The country has nearly reached universal primary education with a net enrolment rate of 98.5 %.
To discover more about Rwanda you can read the full UN Common Country Analysis here.
Our stove is designed to work for the reality of the lives of the families who use them.
It uses wood, but just small pieces of twig and tinder, which rural families can gather without encroaching on forestry. Crucially the design of the stove increases thermal efficiency resulting in quicker cooking speeds and much lower fuel requirements. The stove requires 71% less wood than a traditional fire. Small pieces of wood are fed into the stove via a metal rack. As these enter the combustion chamber they burn, with all heat produced funnelled up the chamber and under the cooking pot. A pot skirt is wrapped around the pot that is being used for cooking to further enhance the cooking speeds, increase efficiency and minimise wood usage. The stove is durable and saves the equivalent of 35 tons of CO2 emissions over its 10-year life.
DelAgua is constantly reviewing technologies to improve performance, any development however is always done in partnership with our end-users. Whatever technologies are available, our stoves must always be practical, easy to use, safe, durable and affordable. A stove that appears to have some environmental advantages but is not reliable in day to day use will soon be discarded and when that happens the consumer and the environment lose.
Two years after receipt, 99% of DelAgua stoves are still in daily use, 87% of households have never had an issue with their stove and we are proud that 95% of our families say that their communities like our Tubeho Neza products. We learn from our hundreds of thousands of users through our extensive household visit programme and use these insights and feedback to develop and improve so that the stove is always better for them and better for the environment.
The project planning and logistics team based in Kigali
Trucks transport stoves to the rural districts
The dedicated team including over 5,000 Community Health Workers manage local distributions where up to 500 villagers gather to receive their stoves
Each recipient is registered and provided with a certification and educational poster
The DelAgua smartphone app scans and captures the unique stove barcode and matches with household data so usage can be tracked accurately
The Community Health Workers visit every household to provide training, education and support
Household visits continue annually and a full “after-sales” service is provided
Data shows 99% daily use of stove 2 years after receiving it
Usage data audited and verified for UN CER credits

The Tubeho Neza project is funded by the sale of carbon credits. Purchasing carbon credits allows individuals and companies to offset their carbon footprint.
Not all carbon credits are equal: because the Tubeho Neza project has so many important impacts transforming the health and wellbeing of Rwandan communities as well as reducing carbon emissions, its credits are worth more. Put simply, they do more good.
Our credits are UN certified CERs (Certified Emission Reduction Units) so you are taking climate action through a process which is overseen by the United Nations. CERs are only issued from trustworthy climate-friendly projects that take place in developing countries and contribute to their sustainable development and our Tubeho Neza project has undergone a strict and thorough vetting process to qualify.
By buying carbon credits directly from DelAgua via the UNFCCC site you are ensuring that all of your money goes directly to supporting the project and will enable us to meet our target of distributing 2.3 million stoves.

Athens, Greece – September Weather
What’s the Weather like in Athens in September
Temperature
While the month of September in Athens is still quite warm, the summer heat starts to cool off as the fall season approaches. The average temperature this month is 24°C (75°F), while the average low drops to 19°C (66°F), and the average high is still a warm 28°C (82°F). The beginning of September brings plenty of sun, no chance of rain, and an average daily temperature of 24°C (75°F). The middle of the month is still very sunny with virtually no rain, and the average daily temperature drops to 23°C (73°F). The end of September also sees sunny skies, with a minimal increase in the amount of rainfall, and the same average daily temperature as the middle of the month at 23°C (73°F). The lowest ever recorded temperature in Athens in September is 12°C (54°F), while the highest ever recorded temperature is 37°C (99°F).
Sunshine Hours
Similarly to August, the amount of sunshine in September decreases from the month prior to it, although the drop-off from August to September is not as significant as it is from July to August. The average amount of daily sunshine in September is seven hours, which still gives visitors plenty of time to enjoy the sun. Even though there is slightly less sunshine this month, September sees very little rain.
Rainfall
The average rainfall in September is just 10mm, spread out over the course of three days, meaning you won’t lose one of your vacation days to the weather.
Sea Temperature
Although the temperature drops slightly this month, going to the beach is still a popular activity this month because of the warm water to swim in. The average sea temperature in September is 24°C (75°F), which is considered warm to everyone, regardless of how long you stay in.
Humidity
Athens is not a humid city during the majority of the year, but the humidity levels do rise significantly from August to September. The average humidity in September is 60%, which is up from 50% in August. This is still a comfortable level and the humidity should go unrecognized.
Other weather
There is an average of just one snow/fog day in September.
Athens Hotels in September
Opened in 2005, the Centrotel Hotel is a seven-floor hotel with 53 rooms and 6 suites for guests to choose from. The rooms consist of single, double, and triple options, while the suites can sleep up to four people. Every room comes with air-conditioning, a balcony, wireless Internet, and room service. The hotel also has a bar and a café as well as complimentary underground parking. The Centrotel Hotel is about a six minute drive from the city centre.
Amalia Hotel is a four-star hotel that was fully renovated in 2007 and offers 97 rooms and one suite. Every room comes with “double glazed” windows, which neutralize outside noise while still allowing plenty of natural light, as well as air-conditioning. The hotel has a lounge in the lobby, which offers drinks and light snacks, while overlooking the National Gardens. There is also a restaurant offering buffet-style breakfast, in addition to lunch and dinner served a la carte. The Amalia Hotel is located just a three minute walk from the city centre and is walking distance to several of historical sites.
Athens Beach for September
Voula Beach is separated from the main road by pine trees, making it feel more secluded than nearby beaches that do not have a tree line. The sandy beach has a few coves that are useful for swimming, as the water here is calm and still. There are several areas to rent umbrellas and sunbeds, and there is also a sports centre (with tennis and volleyball courts) on the beach offering lessons. Lining the beachfront are numerous cafes, bars, and taverns, offering food/drink with a view of the sea. If you prefer to leave the beach for your meal, Il Salotto is about a 15 minute walk into the city and offers authentic Italian food. Voula Beach is about a 20 minute drive from the city centre and can be accessed by Athens’ public transportation.
Marathon Beach is famous for being the site of the Battle of Marathon (fought between the Greeks and the Persians) in which a messenger ran 42 km from here to Athens to deliver a victory announcement for the Greeks. This story created what we know today as “marathon” races, which consist of the same distance the messenger ran. The beach itself is popular for windsurfing as the wind can be quite strong here, and there are trees and plants scattered throughout the sandy beach. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent and a paved walkway just off of the beach that can be used for jogging or cycling. About two blocks off of the beach is Enas k Enas, a restaurant serving traditional, homemade Greek dishes and seafood. Marathon Beach is about a 42 minute drive from the city centre.
Bars and Restaurants
If you are in the mood for Greek food, but something that is a little different, try Mani Mani. They offer traditional Greek dishes, but are created using a modern twist. You can find orzo, traditional Greek pastas, grilled meats and fishes, as well as a selection of starters, salads, and desserts on their menu. They are open from 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM on Monday to Friday, from 1 PM to 11:30 PM on Saturdays, and from 1 PM to 5:30 PM on Sundays. Mani Mani is about a 17 minute walk from the city centre.
Fresko Yogurt Bar was created because a place that served traditional Greek yogurt mixed with sweets did not exist in Athens. All of their products are created using high quality, local ingredients, which are always fresh and not frozen, to ensure an authentic taste. They offer five different types of yogurt and ten different “spoon sweets,” like black cheery or blueberry, which can be added to the yogurt. The yogurt bar is located about an 11 minute walk from the city centre.
Things to do in Athens in September
The Dora Stratou Dance Theatre was created in 1953 and is considered to be a “living museum.” They perform several shows throughout the week and the theatre seats 800 people. The performers consist of 75 “dancers, musicians, and folk singers,” and their costumes (over 2,000 of them) are exquisitely handmade and authentic, as they were purchased from local village people who created them. The performances begin at 9:30 PM on Wednesday through Friday, at 8:15 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, and they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The theatre is an eight minute walk from the city centre.
If you are looking for some excitement, head to Allou Fun Park. They are an amusement park offering various thrilling rides, in addition to carnival-style games. Their rides include things like the “4G,” which turns you upside down and takes you 40 metres into the air, while traveling at a high speed, or the “Shock Tower,” which slowly rises you up before shot back towards the ground at speeds 2.5 times faster than free falling. They also have rides that are tamer, such as a Ferris wheel and bumper cars. The park has several options for food/drink and they are open Monday through Friday from 5 PM to 11 PM, and Saturday/Sunday from 10 AM to 11 PM. The park is about an 11 minute drive from the city centre.
The Kerameikos Ancient Cemetry of Athens Archaeology Site and Museum is a must visit for history lovers. There are ruins and graves in the ground, it’s a great place to walk around. September is an ideal month to visit as it isn’t overly crowded and the weather is still warm and cheerful.

Greece in summer, autumn, winter, spring, temperature, precipitation
Blooming Hellas of incredible beauty
Modern Hellas, which has more than three millennia of history behind it, is compactly settled in the south of the Balkan Peninsula, occupying most of the islands of the Aegean Sea, whose waves wash the eastern shores of continental Greece.
From the west, the territory of the state is limited by the waters of the Ionian Sea, from the south – by the Cretan and Libyan.
Many conditionally divide Hellas into three climatic zones: Mediterranean – in the south and in the center, temperate – in the northeast, and alpine, with lush meadows – high in the mountains. nine0003
Analyzing the climate of Greece, which lies in the subtropical zone, by months, we can conclude that it is tangible: in summer, tropical air masses dominate here, dry and hot, and in winter, Azores cold cyclones with rains are frequent.
But there are exceptions, for example, on February 17, 2008, a snowfall covered Athens, covering fruit-bearing orange trees, palm trees and Syntagma, the central square of the Greek capital, with a white blanket.
Greece in winter
White Tower of Thessaloniki in winter
The cold season in the Balkans is characterized by cloudy weather, rains, turning into snow in the mountains: with each rise of 1 kilometer, the atmospheric pressure decreases by 70-80 mm Hg. Art., and the temperature in winter drops by 5-6 degrees. That is why most of the mountain peaks of Greece are freed from snow only in summer.
The subtropical climate of Hellas is unique in that winter is dominated by the transfer of moderate air masses with a prevailing westerly wind direction.
Moisture-saturated cyclones coming here from the Azores archipelago “cling” the Balkans with their northern part, bringing cloudy and rainy weather. nine0003
But after such stormy days, the weather in Greece in winter is happy again: the sky quickly clears of clouds, the sun shines, and the air warms up a little.
Find out about the geographical location of the country, its islands and what seas are in Greece.
Myths about the gods of ancient Greece and the sights of Crete that are associated with them are waiting for you on this page.
About the sights of the capital of Greece – the legendary city of the goddess Athena read here.
December
Bopac Ski Center
The average December temperature readings here reach 10-15 degrees during the day, and at night they drop to plus 7-13 and below, in the north-east during the day it does not exceed +10, at night from 0 to 5 degrees of heat.
In the mountainous areas, which are very numerous in Greece, the temperature is much lower: it often falls below zero, and above 1800 meters above sea level a real winter with snow cover sets in.
For this reason, freestyle and slalom lovers flock to the local ski resorts: Falakro, Seli, Voras, Parnassus, Pigadia. nine0003
Winter in Greece is full of holidays: December 25 (Greek Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar) all the inhabitants of Hellas splendidly celebrate the Nativity of the God-man. For this event, celebrated at the state level, the population is given the thirteenth salary, all enterprises are closed, and the Greeks generously give each other all kinds of gifts.
January
The central square of the town of Karpinisi
January weather in the Balkans differs little from December – the temperature in most of the country does not drop below zero, freezing the earth cover only at night. nine0003
During the day, the sun shines brightly, warming the air up to 10, sometimes even up to 15 degrees Celsius.
There are a lot of holidays this month: New Year, St. John’s Day and Epiphany, often called Epiphany.
St. Basil the Great, who is very loved and revered here, puts New Year’s gifts into children’s shoes.
The second half of January is the best time for a fur coat tour and shopping. Seasonal sales at this time attract a large number of people to Greece who want to update their wardrobe with minimal cash costs. Come to Athens and Thessaloniki, and even better – to Kastoria, where there are most factories for tailoring clothes from furs and leather. Here you can get great new clothes at a big discount. nine0003
February
February weather in Greece is slightly different from January: the sun rises higher, the days get longer. Average temperature readings at night on the plains are +5-10, in the daytime +10-15, on the southern islands – up to 18 degrees Celsius.
Spring in Greece
March
Spring begins
Greek weather in March sometimes brings surprises in the form of short-term snowfalls. The March sun warms the daytime air of the lowland regions by a degree or two more than in February. nine0003
But with the beginning of spring, the number of cloudy days and precipitation noticeably decreases. From mid-March, fruit trees begin to bloom everywhere, and by the end of the month, the country is dressed in delicate flowery, sweetly fragrant clothes.
At this time, sirocco is not uncommon in the Balkans – an air mass brought here by warm sectors of cyclones formed in the Atlantic.
On the days of March, before the start of Lent, it is very good to visit Greece to visit folk festivals, taste local dishes prepared especially for Apokries, an analogue of the Russian Maslenitsa. A little later, on March 25, it will be possible to look into Athens, where a military parade is held in honor of the Independence Day of Greece from the Ottoman Empire, and festive services are held in all the churches of the Greek Church in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. nine0003
April
Holy Week in Greece
In this month, the length of the day exceeds 12 hours, the sun rises higher and higher.
The temperature in April in continental Greece reaches an average of 14 degrees Celsius.
On the islands, the air warms up much more strongly, for example, in Rhodes the temperature during the day rises to +18 and above, and the water temperature in the seas of Greece begins its unhurried path to summer levels.
The amount of precipitation is noticeably decreasing, and there are less and less clouds. nine0003
Luck will smile on those who can visit Greek churches during the April days, where at this time unique services of Holy Week and Easter are performed, which differ markedly from the Russian rites based on the Savvaite Rule. The services are much shorter than in Russia, and the traditions of Holy Week and Bright Week associated with events from the Gospel are unusually original!
May
May on a Greek island
The weather in Greece in May is similar to July in Moscow: during the day the temperature is +19+26, although on cloudy days it is noticeably lower, especially in the regions of Northern Greece, at night it rarely drops below +12.
The number of days when the sun shines brightly increases noticeably, and the amount of precipitation decreases.
At this time, the most seasoned can already swim in the sea: the water temperature in May in Greece reaches plus 18-19 degrees.
Summer in Greece
June
The holiday season on the island of Rhodes
June is the start of the massive swimming season: the water heats up to 22-25 degrees, the air – up to 26-30 and above. nine0003
The nights are still cool: from +18 in Volos to +23 and more in Zakynthos.
Those wishing to relax in Greece at the beginning of summer can enjoy comfortable nights and see Anfestiria, an unforgettable flower festival on the island of Rhodes.
July, August
The July and August heat is the norm for the Greeks, they take a break from it during the siesta – afternoon rest, and this tradition of the millennium is sacredly observed by the population of the country.
The temperature in Greece in summer often exceeds thirty degrees in the morning, the water warms up to +25-27, and by the middle of the day at +40 in the sun you can catch a heat stroke. Be careful, sunbathe during these months only in the morning and evening hours! nine0003
In the summer Greece celebrates the great “Summer Easter” – the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And if you visit Kefalonia on August 15, you will see miracles: snakes crawl to the temple of Our Lady, but do not touch anyone! And near the miraculous icon of the “All-Holy Judge” near the Church of the Annunciation, lilies bloom on dried flower stems!
Greece in autumn
September
Parade τσολιάδες in Thessaloniki
In September, the heat weakens to +26-34 degrees, the nights become cooler to +15-20. nine0003
Clouds appear more often in the sky, the probability of cyclones from the Azores archipelago, bringing rain, is growing, but nevertheless, the weather in Greece in September bears little resemblance to autumn.
It is still quite warm, the flow of people is decreasing, and until the end of October you can feel all the joys of the velvet season: an abundance of fruits, berries and wines at low prices.
A lot of festivals await you these days!
On September 16-19, a festival of pistachios is held on the small island of Aegina. The annual world film festival starts in Athens in the same month, wine festivals are held in many cities. Fans of English poetry should definitely visit the Byron Poetry Festival at the site of his death in Missolonghi! We can say that September is the time of all kinds of celebrations, so it is most beneficial for connoisseurs of cultural events to visit Greece in September. nine0003
October, November
Voidomatis river in the Vikos gorge
With the onset of October, the sky frowns more and more often, and the heat subsides completely: at night to +14-18, in the daytime to +19-26.
But the swimming season continues: the water in the seas has not had time to cool down, its temperature is +20-22 degrees.
In November, it rains more, the temperature drops to 12-19 degrees Celsius, and the beach season ends.
These autumn days, October 28, you can take part in the celebration of the day “No” (Oh), which was said to the fascist troops of Mussolini by the rulers of Greece. On the second Sunday of November, the victory over the Persian conquerors is commemorated, and on the 17th of the same month, tribute is paid to the students who died in the fight against the dictatorship of the Black Colonels. This event is called “Polytechnio Day”. nine0003
Greece always hospitably welcomes its guests. A long beach season and winter skiing in the mountains, an abundance of wines and fruits – all this will delight you! Even if the comfortable Greek weather suddenly frowns for a while, you will have a great rest, touching the rich centuries-old culture of ancient Hellas.

Which country had the most in the top 100?
Spain! It is no surprise with its warm weather and year-round sunny status that almost 60% of the cities in the top 100 are located in Spain. With its modern cities to dreamy coastlines, you are sure to find the perfect destination to escape the Winter here in Spain. The Canary Islands are the best Spanish region to spend the winter, with 21 cities in the top 100, followed closely by the Costa Blanca with 17 cities ranking in the top 100.
Methodology: This ranking was made by Holidu and Spain-Holiday by extracting average data about each city from October – February to determine which is the best destination to spend the Winter season in. All coastal cities in Europe within 1km of the coast were analysed for this ranking. With data from World Weather Online, we then calculated the average number of sun hours and average temperature per month. These two data points were then combined to reveal which cities scored the top among both data points. Those without data were excluded from the ranking.

The Post Office has released its annual summer travel report to help tourists find the European destinations offering the best value for the holiday season ahead. The list compares the average cost of nine travel staples, including a range of drinks, snacks and an evening meal for two, in 20 resorts. When it comes to the cheapest beach holiday in Europe, Sunny Beach in Bulgaria has taken the top spot once again.
“Europe remains the number one overseas destination for British holidaymakers and this research highlights the amazing value on offer in so many of our holiday favourites,” said Victoria Bacon, from the Association of British Travel Agents. “The relative weakness of sterling against the Euro has also meant that increasingly customers are looking for good value in other destinations and ABTA Members are reporting significant interest in travel to Bulgaria and Turkey.”
Here are the top 10 cheapest beach destinations in Europe for this summer, along with the Post Office’s costings for the holiday items. It’s worth noting, these prices don’t include travel or accommodation.

Right behind London in the ranking of shopping routes is Paris.
Best city parks: Warsaw
Warsaw is not only the leader in affordability for tourists, but also one of the greenest cities in Europe. Another winner in this category is Tallinn, which is famous for the most well-kept medieval city center in Europe.

Such a friendly attitude, combined with low tourist costs, make the Croatian capital the most hospitable destination. And the second place in terms of friendliness to tourists was taken by Berlin. nine0003
Best cultural programme: Prague
The winner in this category is the city with the most museums and the lowest prices.
European energy greened – Newspaper Kommersant No. 12 (6974) of 01/26/2021
Electricity production from renewable sources in Europe has overtaken fossil fuels for the first time. Thus, at the end of the year, green generation provided 38.2% of all electricity generation in the EU against 37% produced at coal and gas stations. Renewable energy sources (RES) are gradually replacing coal and nuclear power plants from European generation. For Russia, as the largest supplier of energy resources to Europe, the contraction of the markets for traditional fuel should be a wake-up call, analysts say. nine0003
Photo: Phil Noble / File Photo / File Photo, Reuters
Photo: Phil Noble / File Photo / File Photo, Reuters
2020 for the first time in history exceeded the share of fossil fuels, follows from the annual report of the British think tank Ember and the German Agora Energiewende (. pdf). Thus, according to the report, last year RES accounted for 38.2% of all electricity produced (34.6% in 2019year), for fossil fuels – 37%.
The study attributed this to the doubling of wind and solar power generation since 2015.
In 2020, the generation of wind and solar plants increased by 9% and 15% respectively, and together they produced a fifth of the electricity in Europe. Among leaders by their use:
But, according to the authors of the study, the growth of renewable energy generation is still insufficient to reach the targets for 2030, and should almost triple. Thus, the average annual increase in generation in 2020-2030 should increase to 100 TWh from 38 TWh on average for 2010-2020.
At the same time, electricity production from coal in Europe has halved since 2015, and in 2020 coal-fired thermal power plants accounted for only 13% of generation (a 20% drop compared to 2019). Electricity production at gas stations in 2020 decreased not so critically – by only 4% year-on-year, which was facilitated by a sharp decline in gas prices. nine0003
At the same time, in 2020, the decline in nuclear generation production was the largest in history – by 10% at once.
“The rapid growth of wind and solar energy has reduced the share of coal, but this is only the beginning. Europe is relying on wind and solar to not only phase out coal by 2030, but also phase out gas generation, replace nuclear power plants that are closing down, and meet growing demand for electricity for electric vehicles, heat pumps and electrolyzers.” Ember Senior Analyst Dave Jones explained. nine0003
Demand for electricity decreased by 4% in 2020 due to COVID-19, but this, according to the authors of the study, did not affect the increase in the share of renewable energy in Europe. Specific CO2 emissions from electricity production decreased to 0.226 kg per 1 kWh, which is 29% less than in 2015.
The fall in demand for electricity during 2020 led to the unloading of power plants with the highest operating costs, coal, and was accompanied by a decrease in nuclear power generation due to failures in France and Belgium and the decommissioning of nuclear units in Germany and Sweden, notes a senior energy center analyst Moscow School of Management “Skolkovo” Yury Melnikov. nine0003
Against this background, RES showed a sharp increase in generation, and gas generation was only able to maintain its position, despite very favorable fuel prices.
Yury Melnikov recalls that the commissioning of solar and wind stations in the EU in 2021, according to the IEA forecast, will be a record for the last five to seven years – at least 30 GW. For Russia, in his opinion, this will be an additional signal indicating the problem of shrinking the European direction of fossil fuel exports. Russia is the largest supplier of gas and thermal coal to the EU. nine0003
Anatoly Chubais, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Relations with International Organizations, December 10, 2020

Lopesan Villa del Conde Hotel Review, Gran Canaria
By

Destination expert
Location

There’s no bus stop outside the hotel, so you need to disembark at the Maspalomas Faro terminal. After a leisurely 10-minute walk past the bulk of the rest of the Meloneras hotels, you’ll arrive at Villa del Conde. There’s a taxi rank, should you not fancy the walk. It’s a 25-minute drive from the airport to hotel along the island’s version of the M1: the GC-1.
Style and Character

/
10
You would be forgiven for thinking Villa del Conde isolated – until you realise, as its name suggests, that it resembles a hotel less than a village. There’s a plaza that feels more like a square, especially during concerts by entertainers who tend to be covers bands with children climbing up onto the stage for a better view. Accommodation blocks mimic traditional Canarian houses, with a painstaking attention to detail, and the lobby is Lopesan’s take on one of the island’s oldest churches: the 17th-century Parroquia de San Sebastián in olde-worlde Agüimes. At dusk, the lobby roof is lit up in hues ranging from blue to purple to yellow, giving the hotel a night-time fantasy makeover.

A well-staffed reception keeps queuing to a minimum. The gardens include a putting green and there’s a medium-sized gym on the third floor of D block. The 18+ Corallium Thalasso is open daily from 11am to 7pm. For an extra-special experience, it’s worth paying a supplement for a treatment such as Sapphire Experience (a body and face ritual including exfoliation, a body mask with sapphire glitter, and massage with semi-precious stones; €130/£115) in one of the spa’s Ocean View suites with immediate views over the Atlantic, plus a private seawater jacuzzi and sun terrace. There’s a computer in the hotel’s fifth-floor business centre, which is available free of charge to guests.

You’ll be grateful for the map given to you at check-in, given this is no pokey villa. Tiled, softly furnished rooms offer views over the fertile gardens (with banana plants, swamp lillies and umbrella trees amongst the fascinating flora), ocean and swimming pools. Higher-level standard rooms offer wooden balconies which wouldn’t look out of place in Teror, arguably Gran Canaria’s most quintessentially Canarian town, and all bathrooms come fitted with a muscle-soothing hydro-massage shower. Go for the larger Unique rooms which come with perks such as a private welcome drink in your room, exclusive entry to a VIP Lounge with complimentary drinks, and a special breakfast area.
Food and Drink

The hotel has five restaurants, including the classy á-la-carte evening option Ovo which you need to book in advance. Here you can pair the local (Tenerife’s Monje Tradicional red wine; €21.70/£19.20 a bottle) with the Basque (Txogitxu t-bone steak aged for 20 days; €44.50/£39.30 for two portions).
The main La Plaza buffet restaurant is more international in focus. Chefs prepare the likes of authentically crunchy Taiwainese bao and Japanese sushi with wasabi reassuringly powerful enough to make your nostrils tingle. Breakfast offers hot favourites such as scrambled eggs, with cheeses accompanied by chutneys and jams, and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. You can also mix your own Buck’s Fizz with orange juice positioned next to Roger de Flor cava.
There are five bars including the reception’s Akoran, where you can enjoy a cocktail such as the house special Meloneras (rum, coconut and melon liqueur, and peach and pineapple juice; €6.60/£5.80) while listening to a pianist in the winter months.

Double rooms from €170 (£150) a night, year round. Breakfast not included (€16/£14 per person). Free Wi-Fi in public areas; €2 (£1.50) a day for in-room access.
Access for guests with disabilities?
The hotel has fitted many ramps and disabled toilets in public areas. There are five adapted standard double rooms, with an entrance widened to 97cm, plus adapted showers and wardrobes.
Family-Friendly?
Yes. There are five swimming pools, one of them saltwater. The children’s pool is heated in winter. A games room stocks board games. There’s also a kids’ club offering a full range of activities for children aged four to 12. The evening shows offered six nights a week are family-friendly. There’s also a mini-disco. Teens are well catered for too, with waterpolo, football, beach volleyball and tennis.

Table of Contents
Best family hotels
Personal favorite family hotel in Gran Canaria: Sol Barbacan
Sol Barbacan is a 4 star very unexpected apartment and bungalow complex in Playa del Ingles. From the outside, it looks somewhat weird, but once inside the hotel, it offers loads to discover. There are several great pools spread out over the area, including an adults-only pool and kids pool, tennis, and many other sports fields. This complex is very family-friendly because of its layout, but also the many activities on offer. I would definitely advise having a look at the Sol Barbacan bungalows as they are ideal for families.
Seaside Palm Beach is a 5-star hotel close to the dunes of Maspalomas in the Meloneras area of Gran Canaria. I liked the gardens in this hotel. It is much more green and lush than some of the other hotels in this area, and everything is spread out over a large area, so it does not feel crowded. If you want a 5-star hotel with a relaxed vibe that is great for the entire family, Seaside Palm Beach is an excellent choice for you.
The 4-star Hotel Riu Gran Canaria in the Meloneras area of Maspalomas is a great family holiday hotel. It offers everything you could wish for; many different pools, including a kids pool with slides, several adults-only pools and the infinity pool next to the ocean and promenade. If you want your own private pool, you can also opt-in for the swim-up suites with an ocean view. Being a typical club hotel, there is entertainment day and night for kids, teenagers and adults. So all in all, a great family holiday hotel in Gran Canaria. On top of this, the Hotel Riu Gran Canaria also offers a 24-hour all-inclusive service.
The Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Gran Canaria Mogan is a modern hotel in Puerto de Mogan. The whole hotel is very open, fresh, clean and has different pools spread out over the entire area. There is the main pool but also a dedicated pool for children with wet bubble slides. On the other side of the hotel, away from all the kids, there is also an adults-only pool if you would want to relax. There are also two different restaurants located poolside in the hotel Radisson Blue Resort & Spa Gran Canaria Mogan. 1 general buffet restaurant as well as a dedicated Italian restaurant. The hotel also offers a mini club, volleyball and other sports fields, and a rock-climbing wall.
Gran Canarias best hotels next to the beach
Personal favourite beach holiday in Gran Canaria: Bull Reina Isabel
Bull Reina Isabel & Spa is a very fresh and clean 4-star hotel right next to the Las Canteras beach. So ideal for a beach holiday, but there is also a lovely pool on the roof overlooking the area. The hotel also has two excellent restaurants. One on the top floor with fantastic views over the beach and another restaurant on the ground floor. Nearby the hotel Bull Reina Isabel you will also find many restaurants and the biggest shopping centre in Las Palmas within walking distance.
If you are looking for an adults-only hotel in Taurito, Suite Princess is your best choice. The hotel is located next to the beach, so it has impressive views over the Atlantic Ocean. The whole hotel feels fresh and breezy and has some great pool options. The Suite Princess also has a variety of restaurants to choose from. All in all, the best choice for an adults-only holiday in Taurito.
Gran Canaria on a budget
Personal favorite budget holiday in Gran Canaria: Terraza Amadores
The Terraza Amadores is a 2-star budget option on the Playa de Amadores side of Puerto Rico. It is located at just a 2-minute walk from the Playa de Amadores beach. There is parking nearby, and if you are visiting here and want to see something of the island, I would advise you to rent a car. If you spend most of the time on the beach or next to the pool, this is not needed, of course. There is a pool bar, game tables and two pools; one for adults and one baby and kids plunge pool.
Canary Garden Club in Maspalomas is located quietly in between the Meloneras and Playa del Ingles area. This bungalow complex has recently had a major update. The Canary Garden Club is great for a relaxed, budget holiday in the quieter part of Maspalomas.
Best luxury holidays in Gran Canaria
Personal favourite luxury hotel in Gran Canaria: Bohemia Suites & Spa
In the centre of Playa del Ingles, you will find the Bohemia Suites & Spa. A 5-star hotel with easy walking distance to the beach. Within the hotel, you will find two great heated pools; one with a bit of soft music and one purely with water sounds for relaxation. There is also an impressive gym with sauna and ice shower and a large dedicated Spa centre with an extensive menu of different treatments. From the restaurant on the top floor of the Bohemia Suites & Spa, you will have a fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding area and beach. Here you will also find the cocktail bar in a relaxed loungey style to enjoy the cool breeze in the evening or during the day.
The Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia is a 5-star GL – hotel in the Meloneras area. So what does that mean? Well… it’s like 6 stars, but since Gran Canaria does not offer 6-star ratings, it’s 5-star GL. This hotel surprised me even before I knew the star rating, so I suppose this rating is well deserved. The hotel consists of little villas set in some beautiful and relaxing gardens around a central pool. If money is no object… I can definitely advise the Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia.
Lopesan Villa del Conde is one of the many 5-star Lopesan hotels in the Meloneras area. This one has a grand welcoming reception build into a cathedral style building. The hotel itself is massive, so it offers everything you could wish for, but because of its layout, it still feels cosy. It feels more like being on holiday in a small authentic Spanish village with beautiful gardens. Also, because there are multiple small pools, it never feels crowded. This hotel is front line to the ocean and about 300 meters from the Meloneras beach. Also, you will find a pool within the hotel with a sand beach if you do not wish to leave the hotel but still want the beach. The Lopesan Villa del Condes also has a large spa and indoor swimming pool.
Best adults-only hotels
Personal favourite adults-only hotel in Gran Canaria: Bull Costa Canaria
Right next to the Playa de San Agustin, you will find the hotel Bull Costa Canaria & Spa. This hotel has a very chilled vibe and is aimed at adults-only holidays. There are many different pools, a spa and a rooftop sunbathing area with a Jacuzzi set-up. From the gardens of the hotel Bull Costa Canaria & Spa, you have direct access to the beach. This hotel has many different room options, including some bungalows in the front close to the beach with a private jacuzzi. There is also an entertainment team and a gaming area if you want to get more active during your holidays.
The Marina Bayview apartments are located a bit up the hill overlooking the harbour area of Puerto Rico. The whole complex is dedicated to offering great adults-only holidays. Since this complex is not very big, the hotel provides a very relaxed vibe and personal service. All the apartments have a great view overlooking the bay. During my last visit to the hotel, many renovations and updates were being made, so I am sure the Marina Bayview will keep on offering great adults-only holidays for years to come.
Labranda Marieta is a 4-star adults-only hotel in Playa del Ingles. This hotel was recently refreshed to become even better. It feels very cosy, compact and colourful as many of the Labranda hotels I have been to do. It’s also very close to the beach with just a 50-meter walk. You will now also find a chill-out and relax zone with some little chill-out pools on the roof. The hotel staff was also extremely friendly and accommodating… one thing I always notice in the Labranda hotels.

Hotels in Gran Canaria. The choice of hotels in Gran Canaria is varied and will allow everyone to find exactly what they need. In Gran Canaria, as in Spain as a whole, the level of the hotel is determined by the number of stars, which depends on several factors, from the set of furniture in the room to the menu in the restaurant, and varies from 1 to 5.
There is no unified global star rating system, but the most popular hotel classification in Europe is the one adopted by the World Tourism Organization. Therefore, when choosing a hotel in Gran Canaria, be sure that it corresponds to the declared category.
The top hotels have the GrandLux category. The prefix “Super” means that the level of the hotel exceeds the number of stars that has been assigned to it.

Shopping Centre in the Sunshine
5
Visit date:
Overview
One of several shopping centres in Las Americas, Tenerife.
Not on the main ‘tourist strip’ (but not too far away), this one doesn’t sell the frequently found magnets, keyrings & other souvenirs, but has more ‘standard’ shops.
Not a huge shopping centre, but pleasant to wonder round, and is used by locals as well as visitors.
The shops are all together but the centre isn’t enclosed, so you can still enjoy the sunshine. The outdoor food area with children’s playground next to it is a nice place to sit.
Transport & Parking
5
If you are staying in a nearby hotel, you may not need to use transport.
The streets nearby are all flat, and zebra crossings are found on all bigger roads. There is flat paved access to the Centre straight from the street.
The Shopping Centre has its own car park if you are using a car, this has several marked disabled bays.
Local buses (which are green in colour) all have disabled access. The buses themselves can lower to let people on, the set of doors in the middle of the bus are wider which allow easier access. There are disabled spaces and seats in the bus.
There are also lots of taxis, and for a different way to travel there is also a fun train – which is driven on the road – which transports people from the busier tourist streets to the Centre. I’m not sure if this would be accessible if using a wheelchair, but may suit people with other needs, and anyone who enjoys being a big kid!!
Access
5
Very easy to access throughout.
The whole Centre feels like it has a lot of space, and has a flat paved surface.
While the shops are on three different levels, there are lifts, as well as stairs, to get to these.
Toilets
4
The Accessible (and all) toilets are on the basement level, which is also where the main carpark is.
There is a lift as well as stairs to this level.
The accessible toilet isn’t just the usual standard white room, the decor looks good and it is very clean.
Staff
0
I didn’t speak to that many staff during my visit, so can’t really comment
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Not that big a shopping centre, but feels spacious, is very clean, and is pleasant to wander around.
Children seem to enjoy the playpark.

Shopping Avenue – Golden Mile in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Site description

Location description
The Golden Mile is not just a huge shopping center, it is a whole avenue in the truest sense of the word. This place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is well known to all shopaholics – and not only locals, but also those who come from other countries.
The Golden Mile is called a real paradise for those who cannot live without shopping. And it really is. Throughout the Avenue of Las Americas lined with a huge variety of shops and boutiques. There are also shopping centers, luxury hotels and many cozy restaurants.
The Golden Mile is also popular due to the pompous concert hall “Pyramid of Arona” located on its territory, where you can watch classical Spanish ballet.
The Golden Mile is especially fun and crowded in the evening. People come here not only for shopping, but also just to admire the colorful shop windows and the multi-colored jets of the musical fountain.

Tours in Tenerife: in the vicinity of the Teide volcano…
Tenerife is by far the most popular tourist island in the Canary archipelago. It attracts guests with its amazingly beautiful nature, beautiful beaches and a very mild climate.
nine0012
Location, population, weather
Tenerife, like its six “colleagues” in the archipelago, is located in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the most densely populated island in Spain. According to the latest census, the number of its inhabitants is just over 900 thousand.
Tenerife is often called the island of eternal spring. And this is quite fair. After all, it is always very warm here, and the weather is by no means sultry.
In winter, when Tenerife is especially in demand by our tourists, the temperature does not fall below +20. In summer, the thermometer rarely exceeds +26. Such a mild climate allows even people of very mature age to go here on vacation. nine0005
Holiday style and resorts Tenerife
Tenerife is good not only for its wonderful mild climate, but also for what a diverse vacation can offer. There are quite a lot of very lively places, and very calm, secluded ones.
Among the first is the main trinity of the Tenerife “merry fellows” – Las Americas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos. There are always a lot of Europeans at these resorts – Germans, British, Italians, who love an active “party” in the evening. nine0005
A completely different plan of Puerto de la Cruz, which is great for a relaxing holiday. True, the beaches here, objectively speaking, are worse.
By the way, on almost all the beaches of Tenerife, the sand is of an unusual gray color. This is because it is of volcanic origin.
We add that the beaches in Tenerife, as well as in the resorts of continental Spain, are municipal. There is a fee for sunbeds and umbrellas.
Tenerife 9 hotels0013
Tenerife is dominated by 4-star hotels. They are higher level than their “colleagues” from the popular Catalan resorts of the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada.
By the way, there are not so many 5-star hotels in the Canary Islands. But apartments are presented in abundance, which, however, our tourists do not really like. Russians like big hotels.
Note that Tenerife hotels are distinguished by active animation and excellent food. However, the all-inclusive system is not used everywhere. Much more common is the half board diet (breakfast + dinner). nine0005
Popular excursions in Tenerife
As a rule, tourists who come to Tenerife begin their acquaintance with it with a sightseeing tour. Then you can “move” both deeper and wider. You should definitely visit the famous Teide volcano and Loro Park. Also of interest are the Maska Gorge and a jeep trip to the Homer Islands.
Plus a variety of boat trips. If you wish, by the way, you can visit the island of Gran Canaria, which actively competes with Tenerife in the tourist industry …
Rest in Tenerife is guaranteed mild climate, always warm ocean and lots of new impressions!..
I want here!
